Supplementary Health Insurance

How supplementary health insurance (Krankenzusatzversicherung) closes gaps in statutory cover for glasses, alternative medicine, chief physician care, dental.

30 March 20262 min

Statutory health insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung, GKV) provides solid basic care, but there are noticeable gaps in many areas. Co-payments, personal contributions and services that are not reimbursed quickly add up over the year. Supplementary health insurance closes these gaps and extends your GKV cover in a targeted way to the benefits that matter to you personally.

Supplementary health insurance exists for different areas: dental treatment and dentures, hospital stays, vision aids, alternative practitioner and natural remedy treatments, international health insurance and more. Instead of taking out expensive full private insurance, people with GKV can upgrade individual areas and shape their cover to suit them.

Supplementary insurance for dentures is especially popular: the GKV pays only the so-called fixed subsidy (Festzuschuss), which for high-quality work such as implants or veneered crowns often covers only a fraction of the actual costs. Supplementary dental insurance can reduce your own share considerably.

Hospital insurance is also an important building block for many people: treatment by the chief physician and a two-bed room are not paid for by the GKV. With a matching supplementary policy, both are possible at no extra cost.

We analyse which areas are most relevant for you and put together with you a supplementary insurance package that covers your individual needs without unnecessary overlaps.
