Long-term care annuity insurance (Pflegerentenversicherung) is a form of private care provision that works over the long term. It combines elements of life insurance with the care annuity principle: if you need care, you receive a monthly pension that can be used to pay care costs. Anyone who joins early benefits from low contributions and solid capital building.
Unlike classic supplementary care insurance, which pays a fixed monthly amount when care is needed, care annuity insurance builds capital over the years. This capital can be drawn on if you need care or passed on to surviving dependants on death. Care annuity insurance therefore has a double function: care protection and retirement provision in one.
The benefit depends on the care level (Pflegegrad): from care level 1 or 2, depending on tariff, the pension benefit starts. The higher the care level, the higher the monthly pension. At care level 5, the full agreed pension is generally paid. This way your protection grows with your care needs.
One important point: in many cases, contributions to care annuity insurance can be claimed for tax, as special expenses or as part of provision expenses. A close check with a tax adviser is worthwhile.
