Children lose their baby teeth, get braces and develop cavities. All of this can get expensive. Statutory health insurance generally covers more for children than for adults, but there are still considerable gaps, especially for high-quality orthodontics and complex dental prostheses. Supplementary dental insurance for children (Zahnzusatzversicherung) closes these gaps early.
Orthodontic treatment is especially often needed in children: braces, retainers, removable appliances. The statutory scheme (GKV) pays only for certain treatments above a set level of severity. Even then, the parents' own share is often considerable. Supplementary dental insurance for children reimburses part of the orthodontic costs that are not covered and makes high-quality treatment available to all families.
Another advantage: children who are insured early have no pre-existing conditions that could lead to exclusion. Starting early therefore secures the full scope of cover with no restrictions.
Professional teeth cleaning, sealing of molars and fluoride treatment are preventive measures that the GKV often does not pay for, or pays for only in part. They can be claimed under the supplementary dental insurance. That supports long-term dental health and saves expensive repairs later.
We advise you on suitable tariffs for children and help you protect your children's dental health well from the start.
