People with diabetes face particular challenges with many kinds of insurance. Because of their higher health risk profile, many insurers turn down applications or demand substantial risk loadings. Yet term life insurance (Risikolebensversicherung) matters most for people with chronic illness and their families. Term life insurance designed for people with diabetes offers a fitting answer to this widespread problem and makes fair cover available.
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic diseases in Germany. More than 8 million people here live with a diabetes diagnosis, and the number of undiagnosed cases is high. Type 1 diabetes, which usually appears in childhood or adolescence, and type 2 diabetes, which often starts in middle age, each raise specific questions about insurability. Both groups deserve fair, accessible insurance solutions instead of blanket refusals.
Traditionally, many insurers rated people with diabetes as a high risk and treated them accordingly. Modern medical knowledge shows, however, that well-controlled diabetes can be compatible with a largely normal life expectancy. Some specialist insurers take this into account and offer adapted products that look at the individual situation of diabetics, rather than refusing across the board or charging disproportionately high loadings.
Term life insurance for people with diabetes is meant for all diabetics who want to protect their dependants financially, in particular parents with children, couples with joint loans or other financial commitments, and people who want to leave their partners financial security after their death. People with chronic illness deserve fair cover too.
When looking for suitable insurance, people with diabetes should choose providers who have experience with this health profile and who assess each case individually. Important factors are current blood sugar levels, the type of treatment, any secondary conditions and general health.
